Although fame is inciting.  There is a certain price people must pay in exchange for being viewed as a star. While some people are able to last through their careers without losing the respect of their fans, others find it more difficult.  In an effort to stay afloat and make the most money possible, many of the biggest names in the entertainment industry have decided to go against everything they initially stood for. Whether singer, actress, or rapper, this unfortunate pattern of events seems to be turning into commonplace.  While some stars would prefer to ignore the fact that they’ve changed over the years, others seem to have no shame in admitting how far they’ll go to make a dollar.  Here are 10 celebrities who have “sold out” the most for their fame.

2014 Stand Up For Pits Benefit

Janeane Garofalo

Actress/comedian, Janeane Garofalo, became a fan favorite for her liberal views and bold sense of humor.  However, Garofalo has admitted to selling out in the name of fame.  During an interview, she stated: “I sold out. Total sellout, lost weight. Quitting drinking does contribute to that because apparently I was drinking about 22 pounds of vodka. But yeah, I…sold out. That is absolutely a fact. I was heavier and it really gets you almost nowhere, you realize quickly. I mean, I got very lucky in the nineties. Very lucky. But I was usually cast as a person wherein they’re so unattractive, that it defines them.”

Jennifer Lopez may pride herself on being Jenny from the block, but her fans don’t seem to see her that way.  Over the course of her career, Lopez has often be accused of selling out in order to boost her fame. In 2014, during a concert in the Bronx, many in attendance were critical of Lopez because they believe she does not do anything for the community she calls home. According to one Bronx resident: “She’s been making all this money on Castle Hill but she doesn’t even help out the neighborhood. Most of the people I know think she’s a sellout.”

When 50 Cent rose to fame in the early 2000s, he build his reputation on his tough New York City persona, and the fact that he had been shot several times.  50 also made waves when publicly embarrassed fellow rap star, Ja Rule for constantly singing during the hooks of his songs.  However, as 50’s career progressed, his music became less and less street, and much more pop.  He even began singing on his hooks, something he once despised.

Rev Run is one of the founding members of the legendary hip-hop group, Run DMC.  During the 80s and 90s, the group rose to fame and became one of the most popular acts in the hip-hop industry.  However, as gangster rap took over the airwaves, clean-cut acts like Run DMC found themselves struggling to stay afloat. In 2005, Rev rejuvenated his career when he and his family appeared on their own reality show, titled Run’s House.  However, many wondered if the now ordained minister had forgotten his roots.
