7. James Frey

Frey visited Oprah’s talk show in 2006 after his book A Million Little Pieces was released. One year prior, Oprah listed his book as part of her Oprah Book Club. It then came to light that portions of the book has been fabricated. Oprah took the opportunity of Frey’s visit to blast him on national TV. The publicity worked out in Frey’s favor. He received a 7 figure deal with Harper Collins and is currently working on a series that is going to be turned into a movie.
