Over the course of many season’s ABC’s Dancing With the Stars has been able to pull some fairly popular celebrities; however, with each season it becomes increasingly difficult to book stars, as they very busy people usually have their time booked well in advance. Going into its 19th season, the show has just announced it’s cast for this season, and while some of these stars may not be the brightest in the celebrity galaxy, there are some surprises that will certainly draw some viewers and should make for another entertaining season for the show..
Lea Thompson, who played Lorraine McFly in all Back to the Future films will be signing on for Dancing With the Stars’ upcoming season. While Thompson has doesn’t seem to have any prior dance experience, she has enjoyed a long career as an actress. Soap opera heartthrob Antonio Sabato Jr. will also be joining the cast, and his addition should be an entertaining one as he is no stranger to competition television shows. In 2005 Sabato Jr. appeared on VH1 competitive singing show But Can They Sing? and in 2008 he appeared on NBC’s Celebrity Circus; which he won.
Fans of ABC Family’s hit series, Pretty Little Liars, may also be excited to see actress Janel Parrish take the stage during this season. Parrish, who plays Mona on Pretty Little Liars, often flips between friend and foe when it comes to her relationship with the liars.
Even with a few familiar names, one of this season’s most noteworthy stars is former Fresh Prince cast member, Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Will Smith’s preppy cousin, Carlton Banks. Ribeiro, who was dancing long before he was Carlton Banks, actually got his first big break as the lead character in the broadway production of the Tap Dance Kid and went on to star as a dancer in Michael Jackson’s Pepsi commercial. In 1985 he also authored an instructional dance book which he titled Alfonso’s Breakin’ & Poppin’ Book. During his run on the Fresh Prince Ribeiro’s character also became known for his famous Carlton Dance. Another star who viewers may be more familiar with is fashion designer Betsey Johnson who is best known for her unique line of dresses, purses, and other female clothing items and accessories.
This seasons other cast members include, Jonathan Bennett, Tommy Chong, Randy Couture, Lolo Jones, Bethany Mota, Sadie Robertson, Tavis Smiley, and Michael Waltrip.
With a diverse cast that will be able to draw viewers from all age groups, this season of Dancing With the Stars should provide its viewers with quality entertainment – and maybe even a few new dance moves.
