Inside Scoop for Glee’s Final Season – Rachel Leads One Directions

FOX's "Glee" - Season Four

When the last season of Glee ended, the arts programs had been shut down in McKinley High. So what will become of the One Directions, Mr. Schuester, and the graduates living large in New York City? Fans have been given some new information to cling to until the sixth and final season of Glee premieres in 2015. FOX published a press release stating that Rachel Berry, played by the show’s biggest star, Lea Michele, will be returning to Lima, Ohio, after a failed venture as a TV actress. Rachel will quickly discover that the villainous Sue Sylvester has shut down the arts programs at McKinley High.

Rachel will take it upon herself to reinstate the glee club and lead the New Directions. Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet), and Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss) will be given “surprising new gigs” in Lima. Throughout the season, other alumni will consistently pop in and visit Lima (duh).

The whole shape of the show’s sixth and final season changed when tragedy struck in July 2013. The show’s male lead, Cory Monteith, died at the young age of 31 from a “mixed drug toxicity” consisting of heroin and alcohol. The actor and his character Finn Hudson were honored in an October 2013 episode called “The Quarterback.”

Ryan Murphy, Glee’s creator, stated that he had planned for the series ending to revolve around Finn and Rachel. Regarding the final episode, Murphy told Entertainment Weekly, “The ending of Glee is something I have never shared with anyone, but I always knew it. I’ve always relied on it as a source of comfort, a North Star. The very last line of dialogue was to be this: Rachel comes back to Ohio, fulfilled and yet not, and walks into Finn’s glee club. ‘What are you doing here?’ he would ask. ‘I’m home,’ she would reply. Fade out. The end.”

Fans will have to wait and see how the beloved series will end now. But Gleeks everywhere are happy to prolong that moment for as long as possible.

The beloved musical comedy’s final 13 episodes will air mid-season in 2015.
