Melissa Rivers Thanks the Public for Support Following Joan Rivers’ Health Scare

At the moment Fashion Police star Joan Rivers is resting comfortably in her New York City hospital room after enduring complications during her routine vocal cord surgery. The star’s daughter, Melissa Rivers, is shocked that her mother stopped breathing during surgery and that something like this could happen. She’s issued a public thank you for their support and well wishes as her mother continues to recover.

“I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers,” she said late Thursday night.

Rivers is currently at Mount Sinai where she is currently in a medically induced coma following complications during an otherwise routine procedure. She was being treated for her throat condition at an outpatient clinic when she stopped breathing and had to be rushed to the hospital nearby. Good news comes from the fact that she’s been upgraded to stable condition from her initial critical state. The news of her status is shocking to everyone around her, especially those who were with the star only a day before she went into for her throat procedure and ended up in a medically induced coma.

“Joan was energetic and boisterous. She looked amazing and was high-energy….she had everyone laughing, and it didn’t stop for an hour,” says a source close to the star of Rivers’ energy the day before her hospitalization while she was at an appearance for promotion of her book, “Diary of a Mad Diva.”

The 81-year-old star is always full of energy and in a boisterous mood in her appearances and on her hit show, Fashion Police. News of her condition is surprising to many considering Rivers’ larger than life personality and quick wit.
