Does Michael Phelps’ Girlfriend Give Tinder a Bad Name?

Last month, a woman named Taylor Lianne Chandler, emerged and told the world that she had been dating Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.  Chandler told the public that, not only was she Phelps’ girlfriend, but she was also [technically] born a man named David Roy Fitch. However, Chandler also stated that she has never lived her life as a male. While the public received the information in shock, Chandler seemed genuine when describing her relationship with Phelps.  In an interview she stated: “Spending time with him was like a teenage love affair. I have never felt so comfortable and accepted in every way as I did with him…”

Oddly enough, the story took yet another bizarre turn when Chandler shared that she and Phelps met through the popular dating app Tinder.  The smartphone dating application connects with Facebook profiles to allow users to browse through photos of users who are nearby.  Users can then select the photos they like.  If two users like each other they are then revealed and allowed to message back and forth.  While the app seems to be a hit among young users, it has often been criticized for being shallow.

Although Tinder allows users to create their own search criteria, sometimes the results turn up outliers, which Chandler claims was the case with her and Phelps.  During an interview with Daily Mail, Chandler stated: “He pursued me [on Tinder]. He was actually outside the age range for what my account was setup for. But what I’ve learned is when someone looks at whatever and likes you, even if they’re younger it shows up in your feed.”

While many of Phelps’ fans are still trying to comprehend the news of his intersex girlfriend.  Many people are equally are shocked that Phelps actually had an account on Tinder.  Here are three reactions from fans who are stunned that Michael Phelps met his girlfriend on Tinder.

Seriously though, Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all-time, did he really need to resort to Tinder to find a relationship?

Anytime you meet someone new, you run the risk of that person not being who they claimed to be.  This risk is especially high when you meet someone on the internet, and even higher when you meet them on Tinder.  With his level of fame, one would think that Michael Phelps would be a little more careful about his personal life.

Hopefully Phelps will be able to answer this question when he’s released from rehab.
