The Most Popular Celebrity Fashion Trends at the TCAs

Teen Choice Awards 2014 - Show

Because there are awards shows aimed at adults left and right, FOX’s Teen Choice Awards is a special night for those of the younger generation. Attendees, hosts, presenters, and nominees all tend to be under 30, gorgeous, and relishing their youth with fame and riches. And what better what to show off adolescent good looks than in fantastic, fashionable outfits that highlight these beautiful young stars.

The fan-favorite extravangaza was hosted by Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey and Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland and took place Sunday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. 165 million votes were cast online for the 16th annual awards, honoring movies, television, music, comedy, sports, fashion and Web stars in such silly categories as choice hottie, smile and villain (The Hunger Games‘s Donald Sutherland). The night’s big winners were Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort of The Fault in Our Stars, resulting in multiple surfboard shaped-awards being gifted to the duo.

But the following fashion trends were the stars of the red carpet…..

Bare Midriffs

Kim K, Kylie Jenner, Taylor Swift, Jordan Sparks, and actresses Chloe Grace Moretz, Nina Dobrev, and Shay Mitchell all dared to bare in two-piece ensembles that showcased their rock-hard abs. Adults wear this look too but, really, this is a trend for the teens, with their annoyingly taut abs. The style was everywhere you looked on the TCA red carpet – the crop top was king and there wasn’t a muffin top in sight. Sigh.

Plunging V Necks

Plunging necklines were very popular and because the stars are younger and in great shape, this style looked elegant and fashion-forward. Pretty Little Liars‘s Lucy Hale, Glee star Lea Michele, host Sarah Hyland, and Chasing Life actresses Aisha Dee and Italia Ricci all took the plunge with deep V’s.

Leather Jackets

Who cares that it’s summer when the AC is on full blast in the auditorium? Leather jackets were the cover-up of choice to keep the stars warm. Demi Lovato wore one during her performance of “Really Don’t Care” that opened the show (the singer-actress then surfed away with awards for choice summer song and choice female summer music star). Demi, Pretty Little Liars and Faking It actor Gregg Sulkin, and If I Stay‘s Jamie Blackley all wore their leather long-sleeves in black, while Ansel Elgort chose dark blue.

Long Side Braids

Presenter/Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev and Pretty Little Liars‘s Shay Mitchell both stunned in long, side braids. This look is simultaneously perfect for the beach or the red carpet. And both these ladies were beyond stylish, fulfilling more than one of the night’s trends.

Red, Pink, and Orange Hues

Bright dresses were everywhere, mostly in vibrant shades of orange, red, and pink and combinations of the two. Stylish ladies Chloe Grace Moretz and Lucy Hale rocked this trend in addition to showing stomach and wearing a deep V, respectively. Also wearing these gorgeous summery shades? –  Zendaya, The Giver‘s Odeya Rush, Big Time Rush‘s Ciara Bravo, Faking It‘s Rita Volk, and Fargo‘s Joey King.
