10 Celebrities Who Have Relatives They’re Embarrassed By

For most people, embarrassing family members are just par for the course.  For celebrities; however, these embarrassing family members can become an issue when they say or do things that could have negative repercussions.  As a result, many celebrities try to distance themselves from relatives who behave embarrassingly or have extremely opposite view points.  Unfortunately, these relationships often come to light at the worst time, making things even worse for those involved.  While there’s no doubt that these celebrities still love their wacky relatives, there’s also no denying the fact that they sometime find them embarrassing.  Here are 10 celebrities who have relatives they’re embarrassed by.

The Baldwin Brothers

The Baldwin brothers are no strangers to success, but there’s one member of the family who just can’t seem to get it together. Daniel Baldwin, who is also an actor, has embarrassed his family on several occasions. In 1998, Daniel was arrested after he was seen running around naked at The Plaza in New York City.  Police then discovered that he was in possession of cocaine.

Terrance Howard

Terrance Howard has worked hard to build his career.  Unfortunately, he has had certain family members who have not been able to be a part of his success.  In 1971, Howard’s father, Tyrone Howard, was arrested and convicted for murdering a man while they both waited in line with their families to see Santa Clause.  Although he only served 11 months of his 1-25 year sentence, he and Terrance’s mother divorced shortly after his release. Howard’s brother, Antonio, was also a bit of an embarrassment when he used his dog to threaten police, and was ultimately arrested.

Nick Cannon

Even funny guy Nick Cannon doesn’t find his brother’s behavior humorous. In 2011, Cannon’s brother, Gabriel, was arrested and charged with a felony after he allegedly robbed a man and his 17 year-old son in Los Angeles. Unfortunately for Nick, this incident took place during the same weekend he and Mariah Carey’s baby shower.

Reese Witherspoon

Many people may have never heard of Reese Witherspoon’s brother, John Witherspoon, and that’s probably because there’s a pretty good chance she’s embarrassed by him. In 2002, John Witherspoon was arrested on charges of sexual battery and burglary.

Laurence Fishburne

Laurance Fishburne has done a pretty good job of keeping his image clean.  Throughout the course of his career he has appeared in several successful films including the popular Matrix trilogy.  However, Laurence isn’t the only member of the Fishburne family whose passionate about performing in front of the camera. In 2010, reports began surfacing that Fishburne’s daughter, Montana Fishburne, had been working as an adult film star.  During an interview, Montana explained why she chose the adult film industry, stating: “I view making this movie as an important first step in my career … I’ve watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape by Vivid.”

Brad Pitt

It certainly isn’t uncommon for people to feel embarrassed by their parents from time to time.  However, this embarrassment is heightened when one of the people involved is a celebrity.  Actor Brad Pitt had to face this situation head on when his mother, Jane Etta Pitt, penned a letter speaking out against president Obama and his accepting stance on LGBT rights.  This undoubtedly caused some embarrassment for Pitt, who has openly said that he supports LGBT rights.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan probably doesn’t have the right to be embarrassed by anyone. However, her parents have certainly displayed some behavior that has made them pretty hard to be proud of.  Her father, Michael Lohan, has been arrested several times including a 2011 arrest in which he was accused of physically abusing his girlfriend. Lohan’s mother, Dina Lohan, has also brought shame to the family name. In 2013, when Dina was arrested for driving drunk, the media reported that Lindsay was very unhappy about her mother’s behavior. According to sources, Lohan referred to her mother as a “child and she needs to be supervised.”

Leighton Meester

Leighton Meester’s relationship with her mother has been rocky since little Leighton came into the world.  At the time of Meester’s birth, her mother was serving a prison sentence for her involvement in a drug ring.  Since then, Meester’s mother has continued to drive a wedge between her and her daughter.  In 2011, Meester and her mother filed lawsuits against each other.  Leighton, who had been sending money to help with her ill brother, accused her mother of using the money for her own “cosmetic procedures” including the purchase of hair extensions.  Meester eventually won the law suit, but nothing could erase her mother’s embarrassing behavior.

David Archuletta

Anyone who has ever participated in a team sport or activity is likely familiar with the parent who doesn’t know how to relax.  Unfortunately for former American Idol contestant, David Archuletta, his father was that person. While Archuletta was a contestant on the show, his father was banned from the set due to his  over-the-top behavior.  A producer working with the show stated: “He has been asked not to participate in the choice of music with David or be in the room when David is working out his routines that he wants to sing.”

Keyshia Cole

If you’ve been following Keyshia Cole since the debut of her reality show, Keyshia Cole: All In, back in 2006, then you’re probably already familiar with Cole’s funny, but sometimes embarrassing family.  Cole’s mother, Frankie Lons, and her sister, Neffeteria Pugh, appeared regularly on the show as their relationship with their famous family member was documented.  Unfortunately, the three often struggled to get along which resulted in several fights and verbal confrontations.
