The smartest women (and men) know this and use this fact to their advantage. Often in the business of Hollywood you will hear of a well-known actress having been a model before she got her big break. Before starring in The Mask with Jim Carey, Cameron Diaz was just a model making money from standing around and being beautiful. Thankfully she bailed on that industry, because she clearly has way too much personality to just stand in front of a camera looking good. She clearly made the right choice.

Not only gorgeous, but immensely talented, Charlize Theron was smart to realize she was way more than just a pretty face. Her body of work is even more impressive when you think about a movie like Monster, where she conscientiously had to go out of her way to make herself look less beautiful so she could be taken more seriously. An amazing actress, and still as stunning as the first time we laid eyes on her.

Before landing her first gig in Night at the Roxbury, she was just a model looking to make a buck off her golden skin and beauty mark. But then after spending some time with Denzel in Training Day, she realized acting was her true calling and was a model no more. Just kidding, she still manages to do both. But she seems to primarily be focused on her acting career.

An amazing actress who has shown guts (literally, in Kill Bill), Uma Thurman proves that people are so much more than just their looks. The most impressive thing about all these women is that they could have gone the easy route, but they didn’t. They wanted to prove they are so much more than just a model or a pretty face. Uma Thruman stands as a perfect testimony to that.

Ageless and still as stunning as she ever was, Halle Berry is the poster girl for women leaving the modeling industry to become an actress.
