Beyonce Breaks Down as World Tour Ends
This past Thursday, Beyonce concluded her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in Portugal. Queen Bey began the concert series last April in Serbia and traveled the world performing for sold-out audiences. Pick a country, she played it. Croatia, Amsterdam, Belgium, Venezuala, Australia- the Grammy winner traveled throughout Europe, North and South America, Australia, and Oceania to perform her many amazing hits.
Beyonce made her final stop at Lisbon’s MEO Arena and broke down onstage while thanking her fans for all their support and while reflecting back on her time on the road.
“I want a [spotlight]. I want them to see me. If you all don’t know, tonight makes 132 shows,” Beyonce said, getting teary-eyed and emotional as she addressed the crowd. “Tonight is the last show of the Mrs. Carter Show. We started a year ago and I want to say this has been such a journey. In the past year, we’ve been through so much together,” the singer continued. “The Super Bowl, shooting the videos, all of these shows. When I first started the tour, my baby was not even walking yet.”
Blue Ivy, the daughter of Beyonce and husband, rapper Jay-Z, is now two years old. The toddler can be seen walking and heard speaking in her mother’s video for “Blue,” off her recent self-titled video album.
“I just want you to know that I am so lucky,” Beyonce said as she began to cry. “I’m giving y’all an ugly cry. Thank y’all again. Thank you for allowing me to have a career. And when I fall, you lift me up. When I’m hungry, you feed me. And I just want to give you my light. I dedicate this song to you guys.”
Beyonce, you couldn’t have an “ugly” anything even if you tried.
The Mrs. Carter Show was the superstar’s biggest tour yet, helping her to rake in $53 million, placing her as the fourth most powerful celebrity of 2013, according to Forbes. In comparison, her entrepreneur/rap star husband came in 32nd place, making $42 million last year. The tour came in second on Pollstar’s year-end Top 20 Worldwide Tours list, grossing $188.6 million from the first 107 shows. It was also the most lucrative female tour of 2013.
