Billy Bob Thornton Says he Wasn’t “Fond” of Marriage to Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is known for being the wife of Brad Pitt, the mother of several biological and adopted children, and a worldwide do-gooder who never misses an opportunity to help an orphan, a nation in need or anyone that simply cannot help his or herself. She’s got a wonderful reputation as someone who simply does good. People seem to have forgotten the days when she was in the news just as often, but for far less flattering reasons.
Don’t you worry, however, Jolie’s former husband, Billy Bob Thornton, is talking about his long-ago marriage to the actress, the vials of blood the couple wore around their necks and the crazy times they had when married. It’s just not that easy to escape from your questionable past.
The couple was married from 2000 to 2003 (she began publicly dating Brad Pitt in 2005) and Jolie was a much different character in those days. Perhaps she had some growing up to do, and perhaps she just hadn’t come into her own yet, but the difference between the actress then and now is staggering. Thornton opens up about that particular moment in his life.
“I mean it was a crazy time. I’ve never been fond of it. The vial of blood is very simple. You know those lockets you buy that are clear and you put a picture of your grannie in and wear it around your neck? She bought two of those. We were apart a lot because she’s off making Tomb Raider and I’m making Monster’s Ball. She thought it would be interesting and romantic if we took a little razor blade and sliced our fingers, smeared a little blood on these lockets and you wear it around your neck just like you wear your son or daughter’s baby hair in one. Same thing,” he says of the years the couple spent married. They made headlines several times for wearing those lockets, and rumors began swirling that they were vampires, but Thornton assures the world that they were, in fact, not vampires.
