Bono Needs Surgery to Repair Injuries from Cycling Accident in New York City
It has not been a good week for U2’s Bono. His first unfortunate occurrence last week was being the passenger on a private jet that lost a door in the middle of his flight from Ireland to Germany, and his latest unfortunate incident occurred in New York City when he was injured while riding his bike through Central Park.
This latest round of bad luck caused the musician to cancel his week-long guest appearance as the musical entertainment on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” according to the band, who made the announcement on their personal website. U2 was the first band to perform on the show when it was changed and given to Fallon earlier this year, and they were scheduled to make a comeback this week to entertain Fallon and his audience and viewers.
“It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time – we’re one man down,” said the band’s website over the weekend. It also went on to say that Bono had, “injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We’re sure he’ll make a full recovery soon, so we’ll be back!” the band continued.
As far as what happened when Bono was cycling through the park, there have been no further details. However, this is not the first time that an injury has caused the band to cancel some shows. Back in 2010, Bono was prepping for the band’s upcoming tour when he hurt his spine and required emergency surgery while in Germany. The band was forced to delay part of their tour while the musician was in recovery from the surgery used to repair his injuries. It seems, through the casual nature of the announcement on the U2 website, that Bono’s injury is not too severe, which is fortunate.
