Shia LaBeouf Issues On-Air Apology to Writer

'The Neccessary Death of Charlie Countryman' Premiere - BMW At The 63rd Berlinale International Film Festival

So did any of you guys or gals follow this story? The story about how Shia LeBeouf was bringing a film around to festivals that he “made”, but come to find out, the story was stolen from a rather prolific comic book writer. Honestly, it is a really dirty thing to do, and even with an apology being issued, makes us wonder the impact it will have on Shia LeBeouf’s career. The good news in all this? Shia LeBeouf issues an on-air apology to the writer. Well, “in air” is more like it. The bad news? It might be too little, too late.

NY Daily News has more on the story, but we can squeeze out all the good bits. Shia LeBeouf issues an apology, but it is written in the sky. No, that is not a joke. He hired a skywriter to apologize to brilliant comic book mind, Daniel Clowes (Ghost World). Clowes is known to be kind of kooky, so this may have been Shia’s way of apologizing, while still trying to appeal to some of Clowes irreverence. Although it is a little cheesy and a little forced, there is also something undeniably “indie” about it.

Skywriting or not, you really just don’t steal other people’s work. It is a somewhat unforgivable crime. That out of the way, we can’t help but laugh. At least he said sorry.
