Bono’s Cycling Accident in New York Was More Serious than we Thought
Bono was the passenger on a private jet that lost a door in the middle of its flight last week , and he was in a bicycling accident in Central Park over the weekend that was bad enough to require surgery on his hand. Now news has broken that the musician is going to need some serious treatment to help with the injury, leading his fans to wonder just how bad his accident really was. And a surgeon at the New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center opened up today about exactly which injuries occurred during the incident.
“He was taken to the operating room for a 5-hour surgery Sunday evening. A nerve trapped in the break was moved; and the bone was repaired with 3 metal plates and 18 screws,” said Dr. Dean Lorich, adding that the musician had several x-rays and CTs that indicated he fractured his shoulder blade in three places as well as the fact that he suffered a facial fracture.
His doctor goes on to say that Bono had surgery the following day on his injured hand and that Bono will require, “intensive and progressive therapy, however a full recovery is expected.” Statements from the hospital state that the accident occurred because Bono was trying to avoid hitting another person on a bike, but that has not been confirmed to this point.
The accident resulted not only in several injuries and surgeries, but also in the cancellation a week long appearance that U2 was supposed to have on Jimmy Fallon’s show, which has been rescheduled for a later date. Without Bono, the band is incomplete and unable to perform on the show, where they were set to be the in-house resident band for the entire week. Fans have been posting get-well soon messages all over the internet, and it looks like this information might help them feel a bit better.
