Neil Patrick Harris Marries David Burtka
It only makes sense after a decade-long relationship and two children that Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka would finally tie the knot, and they did! The long-time couple exchanged vows over the weekend in front of their kids and their close friends and family, which has been a long time coming.
“We happily confirm that Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were married in Italy in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their close friends and family,” a representative for NPH announced on Monday.
“Guess what? David Burtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband.’ Harris posted to his Twitter account over the weekend. Both men wore custom-made Tom Ford suits to their ceremony, and Pam Fryman, the director of “How I Met Your Mother,” was the officiate of the Italian ceremony. The couple has 3-and-a-half year-old twins, Harper and Gideon were present to watch their parents exchange vows. Also in attendance at the wedding was Sir Elton John, who took time out of his schedule to perform a song for the couple at their wedding reception.
The good-looking couple has been engaged for years, even though gay marriage was not made legal in New York until 2011. When the news broke that their home state had legalized gay marriage, the couple announced their excitement via Tiwtter.
“It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date,” NPH posted to his Twitter page when the news broke that gay marriage was finally legal in NY in 2011. Even though they waited almost three years to tie the knot, the couple finally got to have the wedding of their dreams.
