So many people hate on Taylor Swift because she writes her own music and it’s often about her ex-boyfriends and relationship fails. Of course, it’s not really our place to hate on someone who is writing her own music, making millions and living life as one of the most successful musicians of our generation. If people want to keep on hating because they don’t think the young singer is talented, go for it; but the evidence seems quite contrary.

One person who isn’t hating on T. Swift’s new music is someone you might not expect to be a big fan of her newest songs. That would be One Direction’s Harry Styles, about whom a number of the songs on Swift’s 1989 album are written. The boy band singer was probed by interviewers over the weekend about how he feels being the latest guy on a long list of many to have his doings written and performed, and his answer is surprising.

“I think we always say, when we wrote the album, that we write from personal experiences, so it would be hypocritical of us to be like ‘Oh you can write a song…’” he said of his ex-girlfriend’s new music. “She’s really good so…they’re good songs. So I’m lucky in that sense,” he continues. He’s got a point. Taylor Swift is one of the most popular singers in the world, and to be the subject of her music might not seem flattering, but to have the hottest singer in the world sing about you actually kind of is flattering if you want to take a few minutes and think that one through.

Unfortunately for guys hoping to be a future Taylor Swift ex-boyfriend, she’s been saying her music is gradually moving away from boys and moving toward the growing up process as a whole, so your song inspiring days might be a bit limited.
