Five of the Biggest Controversies in Biggest Loser History

Biggest Loser

The Biggest Loser is one of the most controversial shows on television, but people don’t really realize just how controversial it really is. The premise of the show is to take people who have to lose weight and get them fit and healthy by teaching them how to lose weight in a healthy manner. The coaches and trainers are not nice to the contestants. They want them to succeed, so they push them and they yell at them and they work hard to keep reminding these people who are struggling to overcome their issues with food, exercise and healthy living to never give up. The show, however, is filled with controversy as are more and more contestants periodically come forward to discuss what it was really like on the show, and we have a few of the biggest controversies right here.

The Drug Allegation

In May 2016, reports surfaced thanks to a reporter that the people who lived in the house that the show uses as a set are using drugs. It was mentioned by a former contestant that contestants are encouraged to take drugs to help them lose weight and get fit to win the show and regain their dignity in a manner that is not considered legal. The investigation is ongoing.

Harassment Controversy

Kai Hibbard, a season three contestant, came forward in 2016 to state that the entire show is a sham and that the trainers and the staff on the show bully and scare and fat-shame contestants on the show to get them to lose weight. The producers of the show came forward and claimed that the allegations of being bullies are completely false, but other contestants came forward with the same information.

The Rachel Frederickson Controversy

People were stunned when a former contestant showed up with a staggering 155-pound weight loss, calling the fact that she was able to lose that much weight insane and crazy. Even former trainer on the show Jillian Michaels is not convinced that she used all natural methods to lose all that weight, and she continues to question whether or not this contestant is for real.

Tara Costa’s Controversy

She is one of the women who was on the show at one point in her life, and the show helped her shed a staggering 155-pounds. She then took on a few promotional agreements with other networks and regained some of her weight, causing her to endure a lawsuit by those she signed contracts with. It’s not technically a controversy for the show itself, but it is when you take into consideration how many of the contestants actually put the weight back on, which makes the show seem pointless and not worth the time.

The Return

This was during a season in which it was announced that the people who had already been eliminated from the show would be given a chance to come back to the show and play for the prize. It seemed like a nice idea at the time, but the remaining contestants were so upset they all threatened to quit if this was allowed to happen.
