Reality TV star, NeNe Leakes, rose to fame in 2008 as a member of the Real Housewives of Atlanta cast. The show, which follows a group of Atlanta-based women, quickly became popular, and Leakes became one of the most noteworthy cast members. In the years since the show’s debut, Leakes has worked to establish her personal brand and has appeared in several television and stage productions. With her outgoing personality, feisty attitude, and impeccable business sense, it appears that the sky is the limit for the multi-talented star. Although she spends most of her time in front of a camera; here are five things you didn’t know about NeNe Leakes.
5. NeNe Leakes is an author.
In 2011, NeNe Leakes released her memoir titled, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice: Lessons on Love and Life Learned the Hard Way. The book discusses Leakes’ rise to fame and her personal struggles dealing with the turbulence of life.
4. NeNe Leakes is the only remaining original cast member of Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Since Real Housewives of Atlanta’s debut in 2008, the cast has been in constant flux; however, Leakes’ presence on the show has been consistent since the beginning. In 2013, during an appearance on Good Morning America, Leakes stated: “I never thought in a million years that I would say this, but I kind of miss the old girls a little bit. The deal is, we started together, and it was a sort of like a journey that we had together, so I miss them in that way … I am the last original housewife standing, so that should tell you a lot.”
3. NeNe Leakes is actually from New York.
Although NeNe Leakes’ claim to fame is that she is a member of the Real Housewives of Atlanta cast, Leakes was actually born in Queens, New York. However, when she was just four years old, Leakers was sent to live with an aunt in Georgia.
2. NeNe Leakes is a “glam-ma”.
NeNe Leakes may be one of the reality TV’s most fabulous personalities, but she is also an even more fabulous grandmother. When Leakes’ son, Bryson, had a daughter in 2012, Leakes decided to dub herself a “glam-ma” instead of a traditional grandma.
1. NeNe Leakes once worked as an exotic dancer.
Everybody has a past, and NeNe Leakes’ just so happens to include a career as an exotic dancer. Before meeting her husband, Gregg, Leakes worked as a stripper under the name of Silk. Leakes’ described the job as an “addiction” and says that sometimes she earned up to $1,000 in just one night.
