Five Things You Didn’t Know about Shia LaBeouf

"Transformers: Dark Of The Moon" New York Premiere

Shia LaBeouf is an American actor and director with an estimated net worth of $25 million. LaBeouf got his big start as a young teenager on the Disney Channel series Even Stevens. He was successful enough on the popular show to earn himself a Daytime Emmy Award and launch his film career. In a film career spanning over 15 years, the 28-year old has appeared in close to 20 films. He’s most recognized for his role as Sam Witwicky in the Transformers series. In total, he’s appeared in three Transformers films to the tune of over $2 billion at the box office worldwide, by far his most successful work as an actor financially.

LaBeouf is a polarizing figure in Hollywood having been in and out of legal trouble. He’s also been the recipient of mixed critical reviews. Oddly enough some of Labeouf’s work is praised, while that same work is heavily scrutinized. Unfortunately, LaBeouf has been in the media most recently for everything but his acting. He went through a period early in 2014 where he raised eyebrows with odd interviews and the donning of a paper bag over his head on the red carpet of the Berlin Film Festival. Ultimately, Shia is widely-considered a very talented actor, who will continue to appear in films if he doesn’t get in his own way.

Those are the basics about Shia LaBeouf, here’s what you may not know…

Interesting Childhood

LaBeouf would be the first to tell you he had a “good childhood”, but it wasn’t as peaceful as he’d like to portray. He grew up in a rather poor area Echo Park in Los Angeles, California. He described his parents as “hippies”. At one point his uncle was going to adopt him because his parents couldn’t afford to feed him. Fortunately, everything was turned around and now Shia, still close with his parents, supports them financially.

Smart Guy

There’s no questioning that LaBeouf is a smart guy. He’s also a very talented artist. If you needed proof of his intelligence just know that he was accepted into Yale University, but elected to not attend to pursue acting. Pretty amazing considering the circumstances he grew up in – looks like he made the right choice though.

Marathon Success

You watch LaBeouf’s movies and you can tell he’s not a complete slouch when it comes to being athletic. Then you find out he ran the Los Angeles Marathon in 2010 in the time of 4 hours and 35 minutes. So he didn’t win the race, but anyone who completes a full marathon has achieved something remarkable.

Cheating Heart

LaBeouf isn’t a serial dater, but he’s close. He’s had his fair share of relationships throughout his acting career, but he’s also disrupted some other relationships while he’s making the rounds. According to reports, LaBeouf acknowledged to having a relationship with Isabel Lucas while she was dating Adrian Grenier and another relationship with Megan Fox while she was still seeing her current husband Brian Austin Green.

Legal Troubles

As we mentioned, LaBeouf is a rather polarizing figure. Part of that is because he’s often in legal trouble. Over the past 9 years he’s been arrested, charged, handcuffed for some altercation or incident 6 times. He’s done a variety of things from trespassing to fighting, but nothing too crazy (so it seems).
