Jason Aldean Follows Taylor Swift’s Lead, Removes Music from Spotify
Following the lead of Taylor Swift, who last week pulled her new music from Spotify, Jason Aldean just removed his music from the streaming site last night. His reps had nothing to say about his decision to remove his music from the channel, but the reps from Spotify did have a little something to say about his choice to remove the music from his new album, “Old Boots, New Dirt,” from their site.
“The artist or their representatives have decided not to release this album on Spotify. We are working on it and hope they will change their mind soon,” was the information released by Spotify.
Aldean’s choice comes right on the heels of superstar Taylor Swift, who was much more upfront about her decision to pull her music from the site. “I felt like I was saying to my fans, ‘If you create music someday, if you create a painting someday, someone can just walk into a museum, take it off the wall, rip off a corner off it, and it’s theirs now and they don’t have to pay for it.’ And so I decided to change the way I was doing things,” was the statement she made after stating that she feels the entire concept o f Spotify is just an experiment.
“The landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment. I’m now willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists and creators of this music. And I just don’t agree with perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free,” she said of the concept. It seems that Aldean might only be the first in a line of artists who may take their music from the site. We will see as time goes on.
