Ludacris is an American rap star and actor with a net worth of $25 million. Born on September 11, 1977 in Champaign, Illinois, he was an only child. His parents, Roberts Shields and Wayne Brian Bridges, moved him to Chicago when he was in middle school before moving him to Virginia. His full name is Christopher Brian Bridges, and it is Chris Bridges you will often see him referred to as in his movies. As a student at Georgia State University, Ludacris was a music management major. He wrote his first rap when he was only 9-years-old.
Before he was famous for his killer raps, Luda was a DJ in Atlanta for the Hot 97.5 station. He was also a collaborator with Timbaland on his hit track “Phat Rabbit,” a song we all remember from our growing up days. He also spent time collaborating with musical artists such as Jermaine Dupri as well as Dallas Austin before he became famous of his own accord. As a southern rapper, Luda’s fast talents and his comedic flow was not overly popular. He brought with him a very fresh take and a unique sound to the Dirty South, and it was met by fans with wild abandon. When Luda was featured in a song or released a rap of his own, the world quickly made sure they had it for themselves.
It was the late 90s and the early 2000s when he became really famous, and that is about the same time other Dirty South Rappers such as Nelly also broke out on the scene, forever changing the way the rap game sounded in the DS. Luda’s first album, “Incognegro,” dropped in 98 and we well-received. However, it wasn’t until 2000 when he released “Back for the First Time,” that he became a household name. Hits such as “Southern Hospitality” and “What’s Your Fantasy,” were instant hits and Luda an instant success in the eyes of his fans.
Between 2001 and 2015, Ludacris released 7 more hit albums, and he began his acting career. In 2003, he played a major role in the hit movie “2 Fast 2 Furious,” and that was followed by his role in the ensemble cash movie, “Crash,” in 2005. He’s since starred in four more movies in the “Furious” franchise, as well as movies such as “American Hustle,” “Hustle and Flow,” “New Year’s Eve,” and “No Strings Attached,” and he has wowed critics with his acting abilities in each one.
In his personal life, he has three children and he married the mother of his third child back in 2014 despite the fact that they’d been together since 2009 and he got a friend pregnant and welcomed a baby with her in 2013. He is also a philanthropist. He’s part of the DoSomething.org movement that the Better World Books project. He works to ensure that New Orleans’ libraries have books.
In addition to his musical and acting careers, Ludacris also owns his own record label (Disturbing tha Peace) and he co-owns Conjure Cognac, Soul By Ludacris headphones and he is the spokesperson for Puma.
