Meet Jennifer Lawrence’s BFF, Laura Simpson, who caught the actress during her Oscar fall
No one makes falling look more human and totally cool as Jennifer Lawrence. She famously tripped on her dress while on the stairs as she accepted her Best Actress Oscar last year for Silver Linings Playbook. Then, this year, on the red carpet, J. Law took a tumble again, instantly grabbing on to the woman next to her to keep her from falling on her face. Apparently she tripped on an orange cone. Could she be more normal? Lawrence has always been considered a down-to-earth, super normal, and awesome chick, someone who stars in movies but could best your best friend.
Her actual best friend, Laura Simpson, was the one whose neck and shoulders the American Hustle actress grabbed on to outside L.A.’s Dolby Theatre. Simpson spoke out about the incident Friday in a Myspace blog post. The post was titled “I Went to the Oscars and Nobody Cared,” with the URL name stating “I went to the Oscars with my best friend and then I went viral.” The post features photos of Simpson getting ready, random shots taken throughout her night, and a video (on repeat!) of Lawrence tumbling.
Simpson met the Oscar winner seven years ago. She discussed on Myspace what it was like to be the star’s plus one, and how she “had a blast feeding Kerry Washington and sniffing Brad Pitt.” Lucky duck!
“We finally arrive at the red carpet and as we exit the car, my date eats sh-t and uses my freshly done Lauren Conrad up do to break her fall,” Simpson teased in the March 4 post. “The crowd goes wild. There are flashbulbs and people circling, yet no one asks if I need any help because unless you are famous at the Oscars, you are completely invisible.” Sad but true!
Simpson goes on to discuss her experience mingling with celebrities all night, including getting winked at by Bill Murray and receiving a compliment on her dress from none other than celebrity stylist and fashion designer Rachel Zoe.
