10 Examples of Outrageous Celebrity Purchases

Celebrities earn lots of money from their endorsement deals, films, and television shows. Some of them try to live the high life and indulge in extravagant spending. It shouldn’t be a surprise to people if they hear about their favorite stars buying a ridiculously expensive mansion and/or vehicle. However, there are others who go far beyond ridiculous and pay a ludicrous amount for strange or simple commodities. Check out some of the most outrageous celebrity purchases…

Angelina Jolie

What’s the best gift to give your significant other? Apparently, Jolie thought that the best to give Brad Pitt would be a private helicopter that’s worth over $1 million. Reports say that she didn’t buy it for the whole family to use, but for Pitt’s personal use. One of the other reasons behind the purchase allegedly includes convenience for the couple to fly to and from Cannes on their own private transport.

Daniel Radcliffe

Radcliffe is on this list because he spent $17,000 on something so ordinary. You’ll be surprised to find out that he spent all that to pay for a mattress. Reports claim that the mattress was made out of really fine and rare materials. It seems like the star really prioritizes comfort whenever he sleeps. Whenever you reflect on your rent budget for the year, just remember that Radcliffe spends nearly the same amount just for his mattress.  Then again we spend a third of our lives on mattresses.

Jay-Z

This famous rapper has enough money in his bank account to shell out $250,000 for one entire night. The outrageous thing about it is that’s only the amount he spent for bottles of Champagne. It was only a few bottles though because he bought an expensive luxury champagne known as Armand de Brignac. It might be ridiculous for us, but his liquor budget might just be chump change for him.

Kesha

It’s pretty obvious that this singer loves her glitter since it’s pretty much her signature style. In an interview, she casually mentioned that she spends a “few thousand a month” for her budget on glitter. Imagine spending at least $12,000 a year just on pure glitter. It’s either she buys a truck load of glitter or she buys the kind that’s extremely rare. Who knew special glitter like that could actually exist?

Kim Basinger

Basinger is most probably the most extravagant spender in this list and you would be surprised at what she bought for $20 million. It’s neither a sprawling mansion nor a luxury car. She actually decided to buy an entire town in Georgia in 1989. She could have bought a town in a better locale for the same price for less. However, it seemed like Brasselton, GA charmed and she just had to have it.  She also declared bankruptcy not too long after that purchase.

Lady Gaga

We are all aware of the singer’s eccentricities, but you might not see this one coming. Reports claim that Gaga actually shelled out $47,000 for an Electro Magnetic Field meter to detect a ghost that she believed was haunting her. She could have spent on a bit more to produce her own television show a la Celebrity Ghost Stories, but the only difference is it would focus on her and this “ghost” that supposedly follows her.

Madonna 

Would you believe that Madonna is spending $10,000 for drinking water every month? Well, it’s “special” Kabbalah water that reportedly has special healing powers if that makes any of you feel better. One bottle also costs $5 and that’s the price of a simple meal. There were also rumors that she wanted to use that “special water” to fill up and maintain her swimming pool. How much do you spend for water?  Hopefully it’s not this much!

Mike Tyson

Famed boxing legend Tyson figured that the best way to express his love for his ex-wife was to buy her a really expensive bathtub. He spent over $2 million for a tub his then wife could soak her body in. The celebrity has also made some extravagant purchases in the past. However, this caught everyone’s attention since he spent a huge amount for something so mundane like a bathtub.

Nicolas Cage

Cage buys a lot of random things for an absurd amount, but one tops his list by no contest. The actor spent $276,000 on a legitimate dinosaur skull and he even had to outbid Leonardo DiCaprio for it. If he lost, the latter would have been the one featured on this list. Stars spend an ungodly amount on miscellaneous decoration all the time, but it’ll certainly get everyone’s attention when you buy a fossil.

Rihanna

According to the star’s camp, Rihanna spends nearly a million dollars every year to maintain her hair. It’s no wonder that we see the singer we different hairstyles countless of times. Styling it must take a toll on her hair so countless maintenance remedies are to be expected. She is probably the only star that spends so much on hair care at this ridiculous amount. Oh well, she has to look like a million bucks for her concerts.
