Audrey Hepburn’s Granddaughter Recreates Her Grandmother’s Photos

Audrey Hepburn never knew her granddaughter, Emma Ferrer, but her spirit lives on in her granddaughter not only in her genes, but in a new photo shoot inspired by Hepburn and photographer Richard Avedon’s working relationship. Some of the most iconic and memorable photos of Hepburn for Harpers Bazaar were shot by famed photographer Richard Avedon many years ago, and today, those photos have been recreated.

Emma Ferrer, Hepburn’s granddaughter by her oldest son, was approached to pose in outfits strikingly similar to those of her grandmother’s in a new photo spread for the magazine. The photographer for the shoot was Michael Avedon, grandson to Richard Avedon.

Ferrer, 20, and Avedon, 23, worked together to recreate looks that resemble Hepburn’s in Funny Face, Sabrina and My Fair Lady. And though Ferrer never knew her grandmother, she passed in 1993 and Ferrer was born in 1994, she feels she does know her through her movies, her family’s memory and photographs of her grandmother she keeps at home.

“The first images I have of her are, interestingly enough, when she was quite young…I remember seeing a photo of her jumping on a trampoline…I remember thinking that she looked like a friend I wish I could have had,” said Ferrer of her grandmother. The young model’s work with the young Avedon mimics the working relationship between Hepburn and the older Avedon. The two worked so closely together for so many years that they formed a wonderful friendship and working relationship that was even mentioned in Hepburn’s classic film, Funny Face.

To bring the grandchildren of the two together to recreate a relationship so storied was a brilliant idea on Harper’s Bazaar’s part. The recreation of this famed relationship, photographs and photography are sure to spark interest in readers who love the classic, elegant and beautiful movie star and all things related to her life.
