Let the trash talking begin (actually, it has already begun)! Celebrity look-alikes Will Ferrell and Chad Smith are going to come face-to-face in a drum-off on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The funny man moviestar and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer have been playfully trash talking for months over getting mistaken for each other in public. To end the “feud,” the two will square off in a drum battle on Thursday, May 22.

“We’re going to have a drum-off to see who the real Chad Smith is,” Smith, 52, told Rolling Stone. “I’m all for it. But unless Will’s been practicing or is secretly a crazy, wild drummer, I think it’ll be evident right off the bat who the real Chad Smith is. I’m ready to take him down.”

Back in January 2013, Smith commented that the Anchorman actor, 46, was trying to be him. “Ever since the Super Bowl, this delusional imposter claiming to be me has forced me to defend my identity,” he said during an interview with Sydney’s Big Day Out. “What’s up with that? I don’t understand why he, all of a sudden, decided he wants to be me. It’s not enough to be one of the biggest movie stars in the world? It is going to be complete public humiliation on the part of Will Ferrell.”

The two men have even posted videos meant as playful jabs, hoping to get a rise out of the other.

The duo will be raising money for Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock during the friendly competition, with the winner taking home a golden cowbell. Do you get the reference? Back when Ferrell was one of the stars of Saturday Night Live, he was in one of the most famous skits of the era – the “More Cowbell” skit with Christopher Walken from April 2000.

For a million and one reasons, one can expect that Ferrell will be showed a thing or two during the battle. He even admitted to Rolling Stone that he had not been practicing.”There’s no amount of practice that would help me become a good drummer.”

There’s no question who the better drummer is. But this should be a hilarious TV event, plus it’s for a really good cause. It’s awesome that both men are partaking in this.
