Beyonce to Perform at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards
Pop superstar Beyonce is the latest artist to join the performance lineup for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMA). Beyonce, who leads all nominees with an astounding eight nominations, will also receive the award show’s highest honor: the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. To date, Beyonce has won 12 VMA trophies for hits such as “Single Ladies” and “Irreplaceable”, this number does not include the two VMAs she won as a member of Destiny’s Child. Upon receiving the Vanguard Award she will join an impressive list of legendary recipients including George Michael, Janet Jackson, and the awards’ namesake – Michael Jackson. While Beyonce’s VMA performance is exciting, it makes sense for the artist to take the stage considering the long history the dynamic diva has with the MTV network; she performed at the award show in 2003, 2006, 2009, and in 2011 she chose the Video Music Awards’ stage to, not only perform, but to announce that her and Jay-Z were expecting their first child.
This years’ performance from Beyonce will certainly draw viewers and raise the show’s ratings as it will occur on less than three weeks after her and husband Jay-Z’ final American stop on their On the Run Tour. What exactly Beyonce will perform has not yet been confirmed, but what has been confirmed is that this performance will be solo. That’s right – for the first time since June, Beyonce is scheduled to take the stage without Jay-Z. Speculation has already begun that she will perform a medley of hits from last year’s unexpected self-titled album; some believe she may even use her VMA performance to release another single from the album.
The announcement of Beyonce’s live VMA performance may also come as treat for fans who were disappointed when Beyonce and Jay-Z’ “performance” at this years’ BET Awards was nothing more than a recording of them performing their hit single “Drunk in Love.” This performance; however, will surely be spectacular, as Beyonce’s unbelievable showmanship almost never disappoints. Beyonce will almost certainly take home several VMAs by the end of the night, but even if she doesn’t – the night will still be all about her. This year’s VMAs will air on MTV on August 24 at 9/8 Central.
