Did You Know Martha Stewart Dated Anthony Hopkins? Why They Broke Up is Pretty Funny

Hopkins

Martha Stewart has had one amazing life.  From her humble beginnings in New Jersey as one of six children in a small household to becoming one of America’s favorite home improvement/cooking aficianados, it’s been a long and windy road for the now 74-year-old.  And she’s still going strong with her own shows as well as media empire.  With the exception of her insider trading scandal that lander her in jail, Stewart’s had a nearly flawless media career.  However, her personal life might be a bit of a different story.  When it comes to relationships, Stewart has had her fair share of ups and downs.

In 1961, she married Andrew Stewart. The couple separated in 1987 and divorced in 1990. Stewart also reportedly dated billionaire Charles Simonyi, who was an early employee of Microsoft and head of their software group, on-and-off for 15 years. She featured footage of him as a space tourist aboard Soyuz on her television show in 2007. They broke up around February 2008. But the real highlight is that she dated none other than Sir Anthony Hopkins.

After her initial marriage to Stewart ended, she began dating Hopkins in the early 90s. Perhaps this wasn’t the greatest time for her to be doing so. Why?  This was during the time that Hopkins played the infamous Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. And truth be told, Stewart ended the relationship after she saw The Silence of the Lambs. She stated she was unable to avoid associating Hopkins with the character of Hannibal Lecter.

I’m gonna have to side with Stewart here. Honestly, can you blame her? Hannibal Lecter is one of the most sinister characters in the history of cinema. And not only could you not get him out of your head after this movie, but just imagine seeing the guy who played him on a daily basis. Frankly the hairs on the back of my neck would be standing up if we slept in the same bed. And eating together? Ouch. Maybe in a different time and era these two would have been a great match but Stewart teaches us a great lesson. I don’t care if it’s just acting. Don’t date someone who plays a psychopath in a movie they were so good in that they win an Oscar for being so good at playing a psychopath.
