The March 10 issue of New York Magazine features Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss on its cover in just a pair of cute denim overalls and a big smile. But life wasn’t all smiles for the stellar actress. She reveals in the issue’s cover story how her short-lived marriage to ex-Saturday Night Live comedian Fred Arnisen was anything but a walk in the park.

Moss, who reprises her role as Peggy Olson in the upcoming seventh and final season of  the hit AMC series, stated in an interview for the mag that her marriage experience was “extremely traumatic.”

“Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn’t think that I was that young,” Moss said of her relationship with Armisen, the future band leader of  Late Night with Seth Meyers. The relationship ended in a 2010 divorce after only eight months together. “It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible,” the petite brunette continued.

The tumultuous marriage did nothing to slow down Moss, 31. She was this year’s Golden Globe winner for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television, for the Sundance Channel mini-series Top of the Lake. “At the same time, it turned out for the best,” Moss told NY Mag. “I’m glad that I’m not there. I’m glad that it didn’t happen when I was 50. I’m glad I didn’t have kids. And I got that out of the way. Hopefully. Like, that’s probably not going to happen again.”

Fans of the hilarious comedian are troubled to hear the news that he is reportedly a very difficult person to be married to. Despite being one of the best comical performers of the past decade (proven in starring roles on SNL and Portlandia and hysterical bit parts in shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Armisen has a history of three failed marriages. Since the 47-year old’s divorce from Moss, he gave a frank interview with Howard Stern in January 2013 in which he admitted to being a “terrible husband.”

Armisen’s visit to Howard Stern came almost one year after his ex-wife gave a 2012 interview about how she was treated during their marriage. “One of the greatest things I heard someone say about him is, ‘He’s so great at doing impersonations. But the greatest impersonation he does is that of a normal person.'” Moss stated.
