Elton John and David Furnish Planning May Wedding
On Saturday, gay marriage was legalized in the United Kingdom continuing the trend that is giving same-sex couples the rights they deserve around the world. Without wasting any time on of the UK’s most famous citizens is taking advantage of the new legislation.
According to the New York Daily News, Elton John and his long-time partner David Furnish are going to get married. Furnish said it was the couple’s duty to get married after the recent passing of the law. Writing in Altitude Magazine, Furnish said, “Elton and I will marry — as a high-profile couple, we feel it is our duty to do it, to make sure that everyone knows that this is something that many gay men living in this country never dreamed would happen.”
The couple has been together for over 20 years. They officially announced a legal union in 1995. The have two sons, Zachary, three, and one year-old Elijah.
Elton and David might be the most famous couple to get married in the UK, but they certainly won’t be the first. According to the report, many couples were married just after midnight after the legislation passed. It’s another well-deserved victory for the gay and lesbian community around the world. There is absolutely no reason why same-sex couples should be denied the opportunity to celebrate their love in marriage.
