Everything You Wanted to Know about La Tasha McCutchen
La Tasha McCutchen is a fan favorite when it comes to her amazing talent, her humble personality and her desire to make things happen in the kitchen. The southern chef won hearts and a lot of fans competing on Hell’s Kitchen, but she wasn’t initially interested in being a professional chef. In fact, she didn’t pursue this career for many years. McCutchen says that while she knew she wanted to do something important with her life, she wasn’t interested in cooking until she began waiting tables while pursuing her college degree. It was at that point she made the decision that she liked being part of the food service industry, but that she’d much rather work with the food than with the public. She realized then that she was destined to be in the kitchen, preparing amazing dishes for people to enjoy when they’re not home. And that’s when, as they say, a star was born. Here are a few things you did not know about the amazing chef from South Carolina.
She Didn’t Know She was Trying out for Hell’s Kitchen
McCutchen worked for Paula da Silva, the runner up from season 5, at a hotel in Florida when she found out one day that auditions for the show were happening in the building. Her boss encouraged her to go out and try for the gig, so she did. There was no planning ahead, no desire to do it beforehand; just raw talent and good fortune to be where she was when she was.
She Loves Comfort Food
If you want McCutchen to cook for you, she will. But her favorite thing to cook is anything comfort food-related. And we are willing to bet that her comfort food is much better than our comfort food. If she’s not cooking something that reminds you of Sunday dinners at your grandparents, she’s going to braise something. That’s her other favorite way to cook.
She’s Inspired by Strong Women
Who isn’t? A strong woman is a great woman, and McCutchen credits her mother, grandmother and sisters as her inspiration for being the strong, successful woman she is today. She believes that without them in her life, she wouldn’t have anyone to look up to and she credits them completely for her humble personality, her drive and her desire to succeed.
