Parenthood might be one of the greatest movies of all time, though it seems to be a bit underrated in terms of many. I love it, my family loves it and we still laugh about it as often as possible. We watch it sometimes and think that our lives and our kids aren’t so bad. Though we have learned that while it might not be exactly like reality, sometimes the crazy things the kids do, the things you worry about as a parent and just life in general really are not that different than the movie. The truth is that family is what it is; you love them and you hate them, and you cannot do a darn thing about your relation.
This is a movie that made us laugh, made us cry and overall just made us want to watch it over and over again. It’s been a while, but it hasn’t been forgotten. Movies like this are few and far between these days, and that’s why we spend so much time finding our old favorites on Netflix; we miss them. It’s been more than 25 years since this movie was released in 1989 thanks to the glorious work of the very genius Ron Howard and we’ve been wondering what the cast is up to these days.
He’s only been a little busy starring in dozens of blockbusters, making music, winning Grammy’s and hosting shows. Did we mention he’s also been writing novels and making himself even more famous than he was even when he was really famous? He’s been around, and we know that he is not going anywhere anytime soon. Aside from his successful music career, which is in addition to his very successful movie career, Steve Martin is one of the world’s most hilarious comics. He is one of the most famous men in Hollywood, and has been all along.
Oh, Larry Buckman. Tim Hulce isn’t in front of the camera these days, but he’s not too far away from it, either. He’s behind it now. He focused on production after leaving acting behind in the 90s, and it’s worked out quite well for him over the past few years. He’s the production star behind some of Broadway’s hottest hits. He’s been very busy for the past quarter century, even though most of us thought he just faded into obscurity over the course of the past few years. He has not, and that’s worked out in our favor.
We do miss seeing him in the movies. The former Nathan Huffner had some seriously cool roles in movies such as Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, but he retired from the business in 1997. His wife passed away six years before he retired, and he wanted to focus on raising his kids. Fortunately for us, he’s decided to come back to his role in the famous movie Ghostbusters, so we will be seeing a bit more of him.
Julie Buckman herself has grown up a lot. She’s currently one of the most experienced stage actresses in the business, and she’s also been reintroduced to the world as of 2014 when she decided to play the role of Julia in A Delicate Balance alongside famous faces such as Glenn Close and John Lithgow. She’s one of the most accomplished as far as theater is concerned, and it’s been a nice change in pace for the famous actress.
He played Garry Buckman, and he’s always been a bit troubled. One of the great actors, he starred opposite Reese Witherspoon in the very famous movie Walk the Line. In it, he portrayed Johnny Cash brilliantly, showing us that he is one of the most amazingly talented actors in the business, though we’ve always known this. He has been a bit of a controversy over the years, too, disappearing and retiring and coming back and then repeating the process time and time again. We’re never sure what to expect of him, though we can honestly say that we wouldn’t be surprised if we never saw him again. We also wouldn’t be surprised if he was the star of the biggest movie of the year.
Let’s see; what hasn’t the former Tod Higgins been doing? Oh, right; nothing. He’s been in Speed, The Matrix and about a dozen and a half other amazing movies that have put him into the world of really, really famous actors. He’s been one of the busiest men in Hollywood, though he is far pickier about his roles these days. He can be, though, since he has achieved such great success and such great fame over the course of the past quarter century. He doesn’t even look old enough to use that number here.
Sadly, the patriarch of the family, Frank, did not live to see the movie’s 25th anniversary a few years ago. In fact, he only lived 11 years after the movie was released, passing away in 2000. However, no one has forgotten his hilarious character and all he brought to the movie.
She’s the famous Karen Buckman in this hit movie. She’s one of Hollywood’s most beautiful actresses, and she ages (barely) so well. She has been in movie after movie for the past quarter century, typically starring as the beautiful mother of someone amazing, and she is good at what she does. Today, she’s currently working on a handful of projects that will keep her busy into the New Year. We doubt she will stop there, either.
Is there ever a time she is not just stunning in the most unique manner? Helen Buckman might have been a character, but Dianne Wiest is also one. She’s moved on from her time working with kids and is now starring in many movies that can be called racy, saucy and completely fabulous. She’s always had a thing for starring alongside the most famous people in the business, most recently the very famous Al Pacino.
