Five Fast Facts About Amy Adams
Amy Adams is one of Hollywood’s brightest stars. For nearly two decades, she has been wowing audiences with her effortless acting abilities and captivating looks. Adams made her on-screen debut in the 1999 film Drop Dead Gorgeous where she was praised for her performance as Leslie Miller. Her breakthrough role came six years later in the film, Junebug, a comedy-drama which focuses on a newlywed woman spends time with her husband’s family. In the film, Adams played Ashley Johnsten, a young woman in a strained relationship who believes that having a baby will solve all of her problems. For her role, Adams earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Throughout the 2000s, Adams continued to earn roles in some of Hollywood’s biggest films including Enchanted and Doubt. In 2008, Amy Adams was widely considered Hollywood’s new ‘it’ girl. Even with a list of awards and accolades, many of her fans feel that Adams is often over-looked and subsequently underrated. Although her resume now includes some fantastic films, and she has worked with some of the film industry’s biggest names, most feel that she does not get the credit she deserves within the industry.
TheReelist.com claims that Adams is underrated because she “isn’t enough of anything. She’s pretty, but in a familiar, girl-next door way. She’s a celebrity, but she’s stayed clear of scandals and the covers of tabloids…” Adams herself admits that she has chosen to life her life as low-key as possible, and perhaps her choice to avoid public scandals has done something to her career. Although Adams has decided take a more private path and live her life as much out of the spotlight as possible, she is a very interesting person on and off-screen. 5. Amy Adams worked at Hooters.
Before acting, Amy Adams worked as a dancer at Hooters. Although the job wasn’t as glamorous as Adams’ current line of work, she says that working at Hooters wasn’t the worst thing in the world. During an interview she stated: “Yes. But it wasn’t like it was the worst job. And the thing was: I was a dancer. So clothing… it’s like I was running around in leotards and tights and running out in public, you know, to go get stuff. And like putting on shorts with my leotard. So it was essentially the same thing…It was a short enough period of my life. I always find it fascinating that it’s become my entire press career a while. (She laughs.) I’m glad that I finally get to talk to people so they can like put a person with the Hooters girl. It’s good. It was fine. It took care of me for a while.”
4. Amy Adams can operate a muppet.
In 2011, Amy Adams landed a starring role in The Muppets film where she played Mary, an elementary school teacher and skilled mechanic. While on set, Adams was able to show off more than just her acting abilities. Due to space constraints, Adams was actually asked to operate a muppet during a scene in the film in which a group of muppets were riding in the car.
3. Amy Adams is a natural blonde.
Throughout her career, Adams has become well-known for her trademark red hair. However, Adams’ natural hair color is actually blonde. During an interview Adams recalled the choice to dye her hair red in 2004, and says that it was a career move. She stated: “I played a nurse and there was this beautiful blonde, Sarah Lancaster, who was cast as the casino dealer…I’m in a room with her, and they said, ‘Someone’s going to have to change their hair color.’ She’s tan with these beautiful lioness green eyes and this mane of blonde hair. And I looked at her and me, with my pale freckles, and thought, Gee, I wonder which one of us is going to go red!” Adams also said that while she can’t attribute all of her success to changing her hair color, “it really changed things up. People began to see me in a different way, for different roles.”
2. Amy Adams was raised Mormon.
From birth until age 11 Amy Adams was raised in the Mormon Church. Adams left the church after her parents’ divorce and sole custody was given to her father. Although it has been years since leaving the church, Adams says that many of the Mormon values are still with her today. Adam attributes her polite nature to the fact that Mormon women are raised to be very polite and respectful. She also says that her foundation in the Mormon faith has often kept her from treating people badly, stating: “I feel a real consequence when I hurt somebody. The horrible thing is, there are people who I would love to eviscerate and I just know I would get no joy out of it. In the moment it would feel really good and then I would just feel awful.”
1. Amy Adams is a happier person since becoming a mother.
In May 2010, Adams gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Aviana Olea Le Gallo. While most people see motherhood as an overwhelming life change that requires many personal sacrifices, Adams says that she is a much happier person since giving birth to her daughter. During an interview Adams said that while being a mother has been tiring, she’s actually “much happier with myself and other people since having a child.”
