Five Things You Didn’t Know about Charlie Hunnam

Premiere Of FX's "Sons Of Anarchy" Season 6 - Red Carpet

Charlie Hunnam is an English actor and screenwriter with an estimated net worth of $8 million. Hunnam has been acting for 16 years in various movies and television shows but perhaps he’s most famous for a role he is not going to play. It’s hard to deny that many people weren’t terrible familiar with the Brit unless you’re a big fan of the FX series Sons of Anarchy. However, when Hunnam was cast as Christian Grey in the upcoming film-adaptation of ’50 Shades of Grey’ his name spread like wildfire. Ultimately, Hunnam had to back out of the role, but his brief connection to the job did wonders for his awareness. Seeing we may be starting from scratch it’s hard to image there are many things people know  about Hunnam. He’s had a quietly successful career, but his most prominent role has been Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller on Sons of Anarchy. He’s been in 11 mainstream films in total and 7 television series. Those are the basics…

Christmas Discovery

Hunnam’s career started at the age of 18 (he’s 34 now). At the age of 17 he was discovered by a production manager on the Newcastle, England-based show Byker Grove while clowning around shoe shopping. Yes, Hunnam was shoe shopping on Christmas Eve when he was discovered. That’s how his acting career began.

Dawson’s Creek Failure

Hunnam once auditioned for the hit 90s show Dawson’s Creek. It’s hard to imagine what Hunnam’s life would have been like if he landed a role on the iconic WB show. There is no indication of what role he was looking to land, but all indications look like he was going for either Joshua Jackson or James Van Der Beek’s main role. The failure wasn’t a total loss though…

First Marriage

During his bid to land a spot on Dawson’s Hunnam met his now ex-wife and Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Katherine Towne. They two met in 1999, tied the knot just a few weeks later and then ended up calling it quits in 2002. For the record, they were married in Las Vegas.

Gifts Galore

Because of his role on Sons of Anarchy, Hunnam has gained a seriously committed fan base. The fans like to give the actor gifts including weapons. He told GQ UK that his character carries around a Ka-Bar, which is a Marine Corps standard issue knife. Well, he has gotten dozens and dozens of Ka-Bars as gifts including ones that have been allegedly used. Hunnam call that “grimy”.

Budding Screenwriter

Hunnam recently sold a supernatural screenplay entitled ‘Vlad’ to Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B. The movie is about the early life of Dracula. The film is currently sitting on the shelf, but hey he sold it didn’t he. He’s also working on another film about an American drug-lord, which he says he’s totally immersed in.
