Five Things You Didn’t Know about Kevin Hart
Kevin Hart is an American-born actor and comedian with an estimated net worth of close to $30 million. Hart is one of the hottest actor/comedians in show business right now as he will finish 2014 with four films that brought him home an estimated salary of over $25 million. Overall, the 35-year Philadelphian has appeared in close to 50 movies in total over the past 12 years, most of which are small roles and cameos. Hart began his career winning several amateur comedy competitions throughout New England until Judd Apatow gave him a shot at a reoccurring role on Undeclared in 2000. Things didn’t take off for Hart there, but he would go on to appear in movies leading up the released of his first major stand-up album I’m a Grown Little Man in 2008. After that Hart’s popularity grew tremendously and he was being cast in several movies roles a year. He’s gone on to host various award shows and continue his stand-up comedy.
Those are the basics about Kevin Hart, here’s what you might not know…
Troubled Father
It’s not all comedy with Hart, who grew up in a challenging situation. Hart’s father was a drug-addict who spent time in and out of jail during his childhood. Kevin used his natural ability to make people laugh to cope with the pain of his home life. His father has since recovered and their relationship is improved.
Drawing Inspiration
Hart wasn’t an immediate comedic success performing as Lil Kev when he first started his career. He struggled mightily as he attempted to emulate comedians like Chris Tucker during his shows. Eventually, Hart realized he had to be an open book and drew inspiration from Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle. He’s said several times that his life has to be an “open book” for what he does.
Happily Dating
Hart was married to fellow comedian Torrei Hart, but ended up filing for divorce in 2010. The couple have two children together. Hart has rebounded and is currently dating model/actress Eniko Parrish.
Baller?
Growing up in Philadelphia you better believe that Hart spent some time on the basketball court even though he only checks in at 5 feet 4 inches. He showed off his skill at the 2012 NBA All-Star Celebrity game in which he scored 8 points and dished out 6 assists. He was named MVP for his efforts. However, that wasn’t his best stat of the game. Hart was ejected for cursing out the referee and throwing his shoe across the court. All in good fun of course!
Entertainer of the Year
Hart’s stand-up success is well-documented. In 2011, his ‘Laugh at my Pain’ tour grossed over $15 million making it one of the year’s most successful tours. He was also named Entertainer of the Year by the NAACP Image Awards in 2014. Seeing that Kevin Hart’s life is an “open book” there isn’t much that you shouldn’t know about him. Just watch one of his stand-up routines and you’ll know everything about the hilarious little man.
