Why We’re Glad Zoe Saldana Didn’t Quit Hollywood

Glamour Reel Moments 2011 - Arrivals

It was just revealed that actress Zoe Saldana considered quitting Hollywood after making the 2003 blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Saldana appeared in the hugely successful action-adventure flick as a female pirate named Anamaria and had a small role compared to the movie’s stars Orlando BloomJohnny Depp, and Keira Knightley. The now pregnant 36-year old said that the political issues that went on behind the scenes almost led her to quit the business because due to feeling disrespected and underappreciated. Here are 3 reasons why we are glad that Saldana kept on truckin’.

1) She starred in Avatar

Without a doubt, Avatar was one of the most exciting, creative, and imaginative films of the last ten years. And Zoe starred as its leading lady – the enigmatic, fierce, cat-like alien Neytiri. James Cameron‘s 2009 epic science fiction film utilized cutting edge motion capture filming techniques in which Saldana’s lithe physique and acting abilities are shown but in a completely different way onscreen. During its theatrical run, the film broke several box office records and became the highest-grossing film of all time and was, by far, one of the best 3D films ever. The special effects used were new at that time and blew everyone away. I don’t think a fan of the movie could imagine anyone but Saldana playing Neytiri. Happily, we will get to see Saldana and her on-screen doppelgänger again once the movie’s sequels are released (there are three currently in post-production)!

2) She has become a style icon

Zoe is absolutely one of the best-dressed actresses living today. She always looks stunning on the red carpet and has so many must-see fashion moments, it’s insane. Zoe genuinely loves fashion, looks good in everything, and is a muse to numerous designers and fashion houses, including Prabal Gurung, Calvin Klein, and Balmain. If she had quit acting, we wouldn’t get to be inspired by her style and we would not have gotten to see some of her gorgeous looks.

3) She gives television and comic book fans a reason to watch movies

If starring in Avatar wasn’t enough for the sci-fi crowd, Saldana is also the lead actress in the Star Trek films and the recently released Guardians of the Galaxy, based on the hit Marvel comic book. Playing Uhura and Gamora, respectively, she is sexy, strong, smart, and kicks serious butt. The actress is believable in, and disappears into, every role, even though she seems to get them all! The lady is a serious action star and adds feminine appeal and a needed dose of estrogen to these films.
