Godfather of House Frankie Knuckles Dies Unexpectedly at 59

Most people do not know it and assume house music is some invention of the last ten or fifteen years, but that is just not the case. House music has been a thriving sub genre of techno music since the 1980’s, and at the forefront of that evolution has been Frankie Knuckles who has been spinning house tracks and getting people pumped up for thirty plus years.  Sad news today for the house music scene, as Frankie Knuckles has passed away unexpectedly at 59 years young.

The saddest part in all this is just how young he was and just how unexpected it was. The exact reasons for his death are not known at this point, but it is thought to be related to Type 2 Diabetes. The news was broken by fellow DJ and good friend of Frankie Knuckles, David Morales on Twitter.  The news is shocking to most people, as you would have never looked at Frankie Knuckles and known he was facing the issue of Diabetes. It also shows you just how serious of an ailment and it can be and how seriously it needs to be taken. 59 is very young to be passing away, no matter how you cut it.

Frankie Knuckles might be most well known for his remixes to Michael Jackson songs, but the man also had some great original music as well. Check out the Whistle Song on Youtube to see what I am talking about. My genuine sympathies to Frankie Knuckles and his friends, family and frankly the whole electronic music scene.
