Jaden Smith Says He Doesn’t See Man and Woman Clothes
Jaden Smith, brother to Willow Smith and son to Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has been “evolving” in his own unique way for years now. But in the last 3-4 years it’s evident that this is a person who flies by the seat of his own pants and by his own admission wants to be the weirdest person ever. What’s gotten most attention is the fact that Smith has been dressing in women’s clothing for some time now. People have criticized his parents for giving their kids too much leeway and have said that the Smith’s are a perfect example of just how out of control the youth in America has gotten.
When it comes to his dressing style Smith finally had some words for it. Here they are:
“I feel like people are kind of confused about gender norms,” Smith, 17, said in the April issue of British GQ Style. “I feel like people don’t really get it. I’m not saying that I get it, I’m just saying that I’ve never seen any distinction.” In fact, the very idea of gendered garments escapes him. “I don’t see man clothes and woman clothes, I just see scared people and comfortable people.”
Well it’s nice to know that Jaden is comfortable in his own skin. But I have to admit it doesn’t give me too much comfort seeing him look very similar to an 80s Boy George. And if you’re telling me that Will Smith is 100% cool with that then I think that Will has a lot of self reflection to do.
It’s one thing to express yourself. It’s another to go completely out of your way to put on a spectacle and make statements that are borderline ludicrous just to make headlines. I’m not sure what side of the fence Jaden is on. Who am I to judge? I don’t know the kid. I just know one thing is for certain. As a father I won’t approve of my son wearing women’s clothes no matter what his sexual orientation is or how far removed he becomes from society.
