Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert Celebrate Duet in Unique Style
Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert are two of the biggest names in country music, which is why it only made sense for the two to sing “We Were Us,” together. The duet reached number one a while back, but the success of the duet was only recently celebrated thanks to the singers’ scheduling conflicts. The kicker is that Keith Urban celebrated the duet without his singing partner.
“The song went No. 1 quite some time ago, and we spent a long time trying to get my schedule and Miranda’s schedule synced up. We finally had to do the party without her,” Urban says of the obvious missing guest at the celebratory party. Also missing was his wife, Nicole Kidman, who he stated is in New York in the middle of filming one of her upcoming movies. Lambert wasn’t completely absent from the celebration, however. Despite the fact that her busy schedule would not allow her to be present, she sent a message via video. In it she says, “I love this song. I love the writers for writing it, and I love Keith Urban for asking me to be a part of it.”
According to Urban’s camp, however, there was no question that the song was written with the hope the Lambert would agree to sign on as the female portion of the duet.
“We heard through the grapevine that she was kind of looking for a duet for her record, so we kind of wrote it for that, but somehow it made it into Keith’s hands before anyone else got to hear it, and that’s where it stopped,” says writer Nicolle Galyon of the idea behind the song.
The nice part about this song is that it’s one that the singers sung together. It’s very common for singers to record their duets separately, but Urban and Lambert went into the studio together (along with their respective spouses Nicole Kidman and Blake Shelton) to record the song.
