Leonardo DiCaprio Accepts ALS Challenge and Makes Donation
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the hottest actors in the world; he’s in every big movie and people love him. He’s also a generous guy who always manages to step up to the plate and do the right thing. Case in point; the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS research. Not only did the Wolf of Wall Street accept the challenge from soccer superstar David Beckham, he also took a few moments to make a generous donation to ALS research.
The 39-year-old actor is currently in Canada learning more about the tar sands in Lake Athabasca, which are possibly having an effect on the climate. While there, he took it upon himself to accept his challenge and stand around while someone pours ice all over his head. Then he donated $100,000 to the charity.
DiCaprio posted the video of his own ice bucket challenge on his Facebook page with a little note calling out his own challenge.
“Hello from Lake Athabasca, we’re here learning about the Canadian tar sands. We took a moment to join the #IceBucketChallenge movement in support of the ALS Association. My friends Chief Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation challenges Dave Collyer president of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Chief Courtoreille of the Mikisew Cree First Nation challenges Mark Little of Suncor Canada and The Sierra Club President Michael Brune challenges Shell CEO Ben van Beurden. And me? I addition to a donation from my foundation, I challenge Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper,” read his Facebook post.
He’s certainly not the first celebrity to accept the challenge and make a donation to the cause, but he’s one of the biggest. At the end of his video he encourages anyone watching to keep it going and help to raise more money for the foundation so that there can hopefully one day be a cure.
