Paula Patton Files for Divorce from Robin Thicke
The lines are no longer blurred for Robin Thicke and his wife, Paula Patton. After nearly 9 years of marriage and 8 years of separation, Patton has officially filed for divorce from her estranged husband. When the couple announced that they’d separated in February, there weren’t many surprised faces in the world. Since last summer when Thicke released the song, “Blurred Lines,” he became an instant star and began appearing in questionable photos and situations (the Miley Cyrus VMAs performance last year, anyone?).
“We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time,” the couple said in a joint statement when news of their separation was made public earlier this year.
There were many rumors of strife between the two, and rumors of infidelity on Thicke’s part. Patton filed divorce papers on October 3, and the newly obtained documents that that her reason for leaving her husband is irreconcilable differences. They have a son together, Julian, who is four. She would like joint custody of the little boy.
Since the separation was announced, Thicke has made many very public apologies and pleas to his wife to take him back. Though he’s never confirmed the rumors that he cheated, he did confirm that he’s been suffering from substance abuse for many years, and hasn’t sat down for an interview sober in years.
“I told my wife the truth. That’s why she left me,” Thicke said earlier this year when he was asked why his wife left him. Only a month later, Patton stated that, “We’ve known each other since we were teenagers. All I can tell you is there’s a deep love there – always was, and always will be.”
Unfortunately, that deep love, their marriage and their son is not enough to keep the couple married. Whatever the truth was, it hurt Patton.
