The Lion King Rakes it in on Broadway in 2013

37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards - Show

I bet you years back when The Lion King was pitched as a Broadway show, no one had any inkling as to how well it would do. A Disney cartoon turned into a successful show? Yet here we are, looking at the highest earning shows on Broadway in 2013, and guess what show is at number one? Well will give you a hint: it features lions.

Starpulse has the stats, but we can break it down for you. The Lion King made 97 million dollars on Broadway in 2013. You may not think Broadway shows bring in that kind of money, but you would be wrong. Just underneath it, grossing 90 million was the brilliant The Book of Mormon by the South Park guys. Think about that for a second. The guys who made South Park and Disney have the highest rated shows in Broadway. Times they are a changing, people. Maybe by this time next year, we will be awarding the Adventure Time Broadway show with similar accolades. Note, there is no Adventure Time Broadway show. That was me trying to be funny.

Why do I feel like, if I didn’t write that disclaimer, someone would have thought that real? Anyway, congrats to The Lion King. It is an amazing show, and if you ever have a chance to see it, don’t let it pass you by.
