38 year-old Danny McBride is a multi-talented force in the entertainment industry. The Georgia native rose to mainstream fame in 2008 when he played Red in the comedy film, Pineapple Express. He gained further notoriety the following year for his role as Kenny Powers in the HBO series Eastbound and Down, which he also produced. Over the last several years, McBride has proven that is much more than just a jokester, and his career has taken some serious strides in the right direction. Now on his way to becoming one of Hollywood’s most popular comedic actors; here are three things you didn’t know about Danny McBride.
3. Danny McBride went 15 years without a visit to the doctor.
As of June 2013, Danny McBride had not seen a doctor since college. According to McBride, “It’s all hocus-pocus. And besides not going to the doctor, I don’t get sad and I don’t have any phobias. The only thing I get stressed out about is having to get dressed up to walk the red carpet. I hate walking the red carpet. It instantly puts me in a bad mood…”
2. Danny McBride was discovered by Will Ferrell.
Danny McBride was discovered by non other than fellow funny guy Will Ferrell when Ferrell noticed McBride’s performance in the low-budget film, The Foot Fist Way.
1. Danny McBride was offered a baseball contract.
After receiving mainstream recognition for his role as Kenny Powers on HBO’s Eastbound and Down, Danny McBride was offered a contract to play with The Pensacola Pelicans. Quint Studer, owner of the Pensacola Pelicans, stated: “Danny has played at the highest level and after seeing the show, we think he still has some athletic potential. If we can get Danny to work with our pitching coach Justin Lord, there could be something there. Plus, I know he’ll be an unusual influence in the clubhouse and a lot of fun on the bus rides.” Ultimately, McBride chose not to sign with the team.
