‘The View’ Hires Two New Co-Hosts
Yesterday Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Sheperd taped their final episode, which will air on Monday, August 11, as co-hosts on ABC’s hit talk show, The View. The two announced their departure earlier this summer, with Sheperd citing that “seven in the Bible is God’s number of completion…I’ve been here seven years and my time at The View is complete” and McCarthy noting that she had “taken a new job.” While their exit leaves Whoopi Goldberg as the show’s only remaining co-host it also opens up the opportunity for ABC to introduce new co-host’s to what is slowly becoming a rotating cast and this morning news broke that two new members would join the show’s cast: 42 year old political commentator Nicolle Wallace and former football wife October Gonzalez.
This announcement comes as a shock as the two women are fairly unknown. Originally, there were nine potential candidates for the position, some of whom were more well known, including with ESPN’s Sage Steel and CNN’s Sunny Hustin who was said to have been one of the forerunners. The women shot a mock episode: a “chemistry test” in which they were asked to debate current events alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell who will also be joining the show’s cast.
While Gonzalez and Wallace may not have the same TV track record as some of the other contenders, it is clear that these women are no slouches either. Wallace is the author of a best selling fiction series titled Eighteen Acres and worked as the communications chief during George W. Bush’s presidency. Gonzalez is married to former NFL tight end, Tony Gonzalez and she is probably most well known for posing nude alongside her husband for a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) ad against wearing fur.
The two will more than likely be bringing differing points of view as they take their seats at The View’s table and though some assure that this will keep the show interesting, others see their casting as a huge risk and are unsure how it will pan out. Only time will tell if these two future debaters will be able to keep up with Goldberg and O’Donnell.
