Actress Zosia Mamet is best known for her role as Shoshanna Shapiro on HBO’s hit series, Girls.  Since landing the role, the 26 year old  Vermont native has been working to establish a career outside of the popular show.  In January 2013, Mamet made her on-stage debut in the off-Broadway production of Really Really.  Mamet, who has a fear of being typecast, was grateful that the role was completely different than parts she’d taken in the past.  Now, as she continues working on establishing her brand, Mamet has landed a starring role in the upcoming film, Shiva and May.  As her buzz builds, the public has become increasingly interested in the young star. Here are three things you didn’t know about Zosia Mamet.

3. Zosia Mamet suffers from an eating disorder.

In the fall of 2014, Zosia Mamet wrote a column for Glamour Magazine in which she revealed her long time battle with an eating disorder. In the piece, Mamet, who considers herself an “addict in recovery,” revealed that she had been struggling with her appearance since being called fat at age eight.  After years of struggling to control her disorder, Mamet said that she has finally reached a place where things have gotten easier.

2. Zosia Mamet considers herself a feminist.

Although Zosia Mamet feels that the term feminist has been overused, she considers herself to be someone who believes in equal and fair treatment for women.  During an interview she stated: “I am a huge advocate of empowering women—the idea of women supporting each other and supporting themselves and making strong choices that make them happy.”

1. Zosia Mamet formed a band.

Zosia, along with her sister, Clara, founded a band called the Cabin Sisters.  In March 2013, the Mamet sisters began a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter in an effort to raise money to shoot a music video. Sadly for the girls, even the most die-hard Girls fans were willing to donate to the cause, and the video fell incredibly short of making its $32,000 goal.
