Disney is responsible for making some of the biggest stars in today’s industry. Over the years, the family friendly company has proven to be a great starting point for those looking to have careers in the industry. In fact, without the good people at Disney, there’s a good chance that you may have never heard of some of today’s biggest stars. Unfortunately; however, when people grow up, they often outgrow Disney. While some former Disney stars manage to leave it all behind without tarnishing their reputations, others have separated themselves so far from Disney that it’s almost impossible to believe they once had anything to do with it. Here are 10 former Disney stars who are far from Disney now.
Brian Bonsall may be best-known for his role on Family Ties, but he also starred in the popular Disney movie, Blank Check. Although it seemed like he had a promising career, Bonsall never quite met his full potential. After retiring from acting in 1995, Bonsall completely disappeared from the spotlight, and when he reappeared, it wasn’t for anything positive. Bonsall has struggled with substance abuse issues, and has been arrested several times.

In comparison to other former Disney stars, Demi Lovato hasn’t fallen off the deep end. However, the former Camp Rock star, has definitely worked to shed her Disney image. Now enjoying her career as a successful pop star, Lovato has been known to show a little skin, and sing about things that may be deemed inappropriate for someone who got their career started on Disney.
Many may not realize or remember that Christina Aguilera was once a member of the Mickey Mouse Club. However, over the course of her career, Aguilera has never seemed like much of a Disney star. Since making her musical debut in the early 2000s, Aguilera has become known for her sexy image. But aside from that, it appears that Aguilera’s attitude is anything but family friendly. Over the years, she has built quite the reputation for being a diva who can be extremely rude and difficult to get along with. Wonder what her buddy Mickey Mouse would think of that!

Zendaya is one of the most recent stars to ditch Disney and try to build a career away from the mouse ears. The 19-year-old star, who got her start on the series, Shake it Up, is already rocking a totally new – and more revealing – look. Although she has yet to land a major role outside of Disney, she’s already built up a pretty impressive following of fans who are ready to see her do something a little more adult.
There was a time when former High School Musical star, Vanessa Hudgens, could do no wrong. But unfortunately, no matter how wholesome Disney’s stars are, they must grow up, and growing up usually involves making a few mistakes. In 2007, Hudgens found herself struggling to maintain her image when compromising photos of her were leaked onto the Internet. Over the next several years, more groups of photos of Hudgens found their way onto the Internet, and it became clear that she may not be as clean-cut as she seemed.

Britney Spears is another star who got her start on the Mickey Mouse Club. However, over the course of her career, it’s become harder and harder to believe that Spears was affiliated with Disney at all. Not only has Spears been known for her sexy image, but she’s also dealt with substance abuse and legal issues, that have almost derailed her career on more than one occasion. Although she seems to be doing better than ever these days, no one will ever forget her infamous melt down.

Former Disney sweetheart, Selena Gomez, was once one of the most popular actresses on the Disney Channel. However, after leaving the network, Gomez’ career has taken a very interesting turn. These days, the pop star has gone from being a role model to being the kind of artist that parents of young girls want to avoid. If her relationship with Justin Bieber wasn’t enough to scare people away, some of the content of her songs definitely will. In fact, in more recent years, Gomez has caught a lot of flack for being a bad role model.

For a while, Shia LaBeouf seemed like he would be one of the former Disney stars to really make it. However, after years of post Disney success, LaBeouf has managed to fall apart. After a few public appearances, including one in which he showed up on the red carpet wearing a paper bag over his face, it’s clear that the Shia LaBeouf that fans once knew and loved may be gone for good.

For a while, Miley Cyrus was Disney’s biggest star, but oh how the mighty have fallen. While Cyrus has gone on to find success even after separating from Disney, it’s getting harder and harder to believe that she was ever the star of a show meant to entertain children. These days, Cyrus seems to be more concerned with twerking and partying than anything else.
Lindsay Lohan once had one of the most promising careers Disney had seen in a while. But after years of being the star of many of Disney’s films, Lohan’s personal struggles derailed her career. Unfortunately for Lohan, substance abuse has been such a severe issue that she’s spent time in both jail and rehab. Although many people hope that she will eventually be able to get back on track, it seems like her glory days may have already come and gone.
