Billy Crystal to Honor Robin Williams at Emmy Awards
The Emmy Awards are set to air this coming Monday at 8 pm, and the show will pay a fitting tribute to Robin Williams. Producers made the decision to ask a longtime friend and coworker of Williams’ to pay tribute to the star during the Memoriam segment. Billy Crystal, a longtime friend of Williams, is set to host the tribute segment to honor his friend and former coworker.
The two once hosted a series of Comic Relief specials on HBO that benefit the homeless. Along with Whoopi Goldberg, the comedy duo would perform and share their hilarious antics with the world. Additionally, Crystal and Williams also starred together in Father’s Day, a 1997 comedy movie.
“No words,” was the tweet posted by Crystal following the death of his friend and fellow actor. He’s since remained silent regarding the loss of his friend, and this will be the first time he’s publicly addressed Williams’ death since he was found on August 11. In addition to Crystal, singer Sarah Bareilles will also sing a song during the segment, no doubt one that will bring tears to most everyone’s eyes.
There will also be an onslaught of celebrities and famous actors throughout the show paying tribute to Williams. During his long career, the comedic actor met and worked with dozens of the world’s most famous faces, and befriended many. From what most of Hollywood has said about Williams in the wake of his death, just about everyone that worked with him enjoyed him and welcomed his friendship in their lives. The Emmys are a fitting place for his memoriam considering Williams was nominated for 8 and took home 2 throughout his career.
The Emmy Awards, hosted by Seth Myers, will air on NBC on Monday, August 25 at 8 pm (EST). This is the 66th Emmy Award show.
