Reese Witherspoon Plays Cop in New Action-Comedy Don’t Mess with Texas

2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards - Arrivals

It’s like an episode of The Twilight Zone. After famously berating a cop in April 23, Reese Witherspoon is playing one in her newest movie, Don’t Mess with Texas.  The Oscar-winning actress was snapped fully costumed on set wearing a police uniform, including a tie, badge, and “COOPER” nameplate. The 38-year old mother of three had one-of-those-nights she most likely wished she could erase back in April 2013. Reese and her husband, Jim Toth, were pulled over in Atlanta. While Toth was being administered a field sobriety test, Witherspoon became inconsolable, shouting at the officer and yelling things like “Do you know my name?” and “You’re about to find out who I am… You are going to be on national news.” Witherspoon was charged with disorderly conduct for the incident.

Girl, we’ve all been there. Well, many of us haven’t been there, exactly. But we all have had those drunken nights, when we act stupid, that we wish we could forget. I truly don’t think people think about that incident when they think of Reese, which says a lot about her likability and talent. When you have been well-behaved and out of trouble for the vast majority of your career and life, it seems like fans and the population in general do in fact let things slide. S**t happens, right Reese? Just most people don’t get to taunt other people bothering them about being rich and famous.

Don’t Mess with Texas also stars Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara and Michael Mosley (whose credits include TV’s Sirens and Pan Am). The female-led action comedy has Witherspoon’s cop and Sofia Vergara as a fugitive/prisoner who are on the run together. The movie began filming in New Orleans earlier this month.

And remember, don’t mess with Reese either. Or her husband.
