Here’s Some Stuff you Didn’t Know About Trista Sutter
42 year-old Trista Sutter rose to fame when she competed as a contestant on the first season of ABC’s now popular dating show, The Bachelor. The show revolves around a single man who is in search for the woman of his dreams. When the show begins, several women are introduced to “the bachelor,” and as the show continues he eliminates those he is not interested in. During the show’s first season, Sutter finished in second place and was subsequently invited to participate in the first season of the spin-off series, The Bachelorette. The show had the same premise as The Bachelor, except this time the woman was in charge of choosing a man. When the season ended, Sutter had chosen a mate, Ryan Sutter, and the two were married. The couple was paid $1 million for allowing ABC to televise their wedding, and their three-part wedding mini series attracted 26 million viewers.
Now more than 10 years later, the couple is still happily married and seems to have defied the odds of reality TV romances. While describing her decision to take part in the show(s), Sutter stated: “I’m not ashamed of it by any means. The first time I just wanted to have a fun, new experience. The second time was a means to an end. I really, truly wanted to meet someone and thankfully, Ryan was there.” The couple, who now has two small children, sees themselves like any other couple and have said that they don’t spend time watching episodes of the show. During an interview to discuss her book, Sutter said that the couple has not yet shared the story of how they met with their children but will do so when the time is right. Although it’s been nearly 15 years since she was introduced to viewers everywhere; here are three fast facts about Trista Sutter.
3. Trista Sutter is no stranger to harsh remarks.
Since appearing on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, reality TV star Trista Sutter has found herself in the fact of several heated arguments. In the summer of 2014, Sutter made headlines when fellow former Bachelor contestant, Courtney Robertson, decided to fire off a few tweets aimed in Sutter’s direction. The feud between the two started when Courtney made comments about Trista in her memoir, I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends: Diary of a Reality Show Villain, in which Courtney stated: “Courtney calls herself confident. I’d say maybe uneducated because what you are is conceded [sic].” However, Trista feuds are not just limited to arguments with other reality TV show stars. In December 2014, late-night talk legend, Jay Leno, made some not-so-flattering remarks about Sutter when he confessed that he had no idea who she was when she appeared on his show. Leno told Craig Ferguson: “The classic example is I had one of these reality stars on… Trista! From one of these ‘Bachelorettes’… So, I’m sitting and I’m looking at the side of her head. I couldn’t be less interested. I’ve never seen this stupid reality show — you know what it was.” Leno then went on to share an encounter he had with Sutter almost immediately after interviewing her: “She goes, ‘Hey, can I have a picture?'” the former Tonight Show star said. “And I go, ‘Sure, what’s your name?'” While some people found Leno’s comments harsh, others agreed that they either didn’t know who Sutter was, or didn’t know what she was famous for. However, Sutter took the comments in stride and responded with a simple tweet.

Now a mother of two young children, Trista Sutter takes her responsibilities as a parent very seriously. In her book, Happily Ever After: The Life-Changing Power of a Grateful Heart, Sutter shares parenting and other life advice with her readers. Sutter shared that the best parenting advice she’s ever recieved was given by singer Brad Paisley while backstage at one of his concerts. Sutter shared: “We were really struggling with Max sleeping and we were backstage with Brad Paisley at one of his concerts …he has kids about the same age. I brought up the sleep issue and he said, ‘We just had a sleep specialist come over and work with us and she had us do the cry it out method.’ I thought for so long it was so cruel and I couldn’t do it, but we tried it after that and it changed our lives.” Sutter also described her parenting style as “very regimented” and said: “I’m much more protective…I like keeping to a schedule and the reason I like it is because my children are happier if they get their sleep — if they do the things they are used to doing.”
