Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd to Exit ‘The View’

The long-running daytime talk show, The View, now in it’s seventeenth season, is dead set on shaking things up.

Two of the ABC show’s hosts, Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, are leaving the daytime chat fest this fall. In addition to this change up, show staple Barbara Walters recently retired from the show as well. That leaves only Whoopi Goldberg from the current list of all-female hosts. The show has seen a slew of hosts come and go, including Elisabeth Hasselback and Joy Behar.

“The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next year and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” the network said in a statement. Sources say that the “exciting new direction” being referred to might possibly include a male co-host or two, something never before done on the show.

Shepherd joined the talk show as a guest co-host in 2006 and IMDB now credits her with hosting over 450 episodes. McCarthy joined The View last year and is credited with hosting nearly 200 episodes.

“It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on,” Shepherd said in a statement to The Wrap. “I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and [executive producer] Bill Geddie for giving me the opportunity,”  “I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”

McCarthy wrote a couple of tweets on the subject, including one that showed a camaraderie with Shepherd: “If Sherri goes… I go too. #sisters,” McCarthy published on Thursday night, June 26. She also tweeted a few minutes later, “My View will be changing too. As will with many hard working folks. Thanks to everyone at the show for your dedication and an amazing year.”

It will be interesting to see if the show does truly go in a new direction and how as well as who the new hosts will be.
