Is Lil Wayne Quitting Music?

Miguel Cotto v Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Lil Wayne is one of the most successful rappers of the past decade. Despite his success and still being at the pinnacle of his career, he may be walking away from the game… According to The Huffington Post, in a news interview with MTV Lil Wayne said that his upcoming album Tha Carter V will be his last project.

“I personally plan on this being my final solo album, yes and it’s definitely the final Carter album,” he told the outlet. “It’s the final Carter album. It’s stopping at five.”

The first installment of Tha Carter series was released in 2004. The most successful of the five albums was number three and number four, which both were certified multiple platinum and landed at #1 on the Billboard charts.

Lil Wayne has said multiple times that he’s “so ready to retire” at the age of 35. The only thing that would keep him in the game is if his album earned him $25-$30 million dollars. A very high number indeed, but certainly not unobtainable. At this point, Lil Wayne could retire comfortably with the amount of money he’s made with his music catalog, tours, and appearances on fellow hip-hop stars records.
